Privacy Policy
TheMiniKid is used by children, so we hold ourselves to a stricter standard than most sites. This page explains exactly what we collect and what we refuse to do.
The short version
- We never sell or rent personal information — to anyone, for any price.
- We never show advertising to children.
- A parent or guardian creates and controls every account.
- Children cannot message each other or be contacted by strangers.
- You can ask us to delete your family's data at any time, and we will.
1. Who we are
TheMiniKid ("we", "us") operates the free learning platform at theminikid.com. If you have any question about this policy, email hello@theminikid.com.
2. Information we collect
From parents. When you create a family account we collect your email address and a securely hashed password. If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address and name from Google — never your Google password.
About children. A parent adds each child and provides only a first name, a grade level, an optional age, an emoji avatar, and an optional 4-digit PIN. We do not ask children for an email address, a phone number, a photograph, a last name, or a home address.
Learning activity. As a child uses the platform we record which items they opened and completed, quiz scores, XP earned, levels, day streaks, and minutes of focused activity. This exists to power the child's own dashboard and the parent's progress reports.
Creations. Anything a child makes in Mini Canvas is stored on their account. It stays private to the family unless the child chooses to share it with their family.
Technical and usage data. Like any website we process basic technical information such as approximate page views and aggregate feature usage, so we can tell what is working. We do not build advertising profiles of children.
3. What we do not collect
We do not collect precise location data, contact lists, biometric data, or a child's voice or camera input. We do not use third-party advertising trackers or advertising cookies anywhere on the platform.
4. How we use information
We use the information above only to: run your account and keep it secure; show a child their own progress; show a parent their children's progress; send the account and progress emails described below; keep our grade-level content organized; and diagnose technical problems.
We do not use children's information to advertise to them, and we do not use it to train advertising models.
5. Children's privacy (COPPA and GDPR-K)
TheMiniKid is intended for children under 13 used under the account of a parent or guardian. A child cannot register independently: a parent creates the family account, and every child profile lives inside that account.
By adding a child, the parent provides verifiable consent to the collection described in this policy. A parent may at any time review the information held about their child, correct it, or ask us to delete it, and may withdraw consent by deleting the child's profile or the family account.
We collect no more from a child than is needed to run the learning features, and we never condition a child's participation on disclosing more than that.
6. Emails we send
We email the parent on the account — never the child. Those emails cover account and security matters, an immediate note when a child completes an activity, and a weekly progress summary. You can ask us to stop the progress emails at any time and keep only the essential account ones.
7. Sharing and service providers
We do not sell, rent or trade personal information. We share it only with the service providers who make the platform run — our hosting and database provider, our email delivery provider, and the AI provider that powers quiz generation and the on-site assistant — and only to the extent needed to perform that service on our behalf.
Content on the platform may be hosted or embedded from third parties such as YouTube. When a video plays, that provider's own terms apply to the playback. We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or to protect the safety of a child.
8. Security
Accounts are protected by passwords that we store only in hashed form, and all traffic to the site is encrypted in transit. Family data is access-controlled at the database level so that one family cannot read another family's children, progress or creations.
A child's 4-digit PIN is a convenience for switching between siblings on a shared family device — it is not a security boundary, and it should never be treated as one.
9. Data retention
We keep your family's data while your account is active. If you delete a child's profile we remove that child's profile data; if you ask us to close the family account, we delete the account and its associated child profiles, progress and creations.
10. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, delete or restrict the processing of your personal information, and to withdraw consent. Parents hold these rights on behalf of their children. To exercise any of them, email hello@theminikid.com and we will respond within 30 days.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. If a change materially affects how we handle children's information, we will notify the parent on the account by email before it takes effect.
